Fire From the Lord
11 Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp. 2 When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the Lord and the fire died down. 3 So that place was called Taberah,[a] because fire from the Lord had burned among them.
Quail From the Lord
4 The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat! 5 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. 6 But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!”
10 Moses heard the people of every family wailing at the entrance to their tents. The Lord became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. 11 He asked the Lord, “Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me? 12 Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land you promised on oath to their ancestors? 13 Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ 14 I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me. 15 If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me—if I have found favor in your eyes—and do not let me face my own ruin.”
Romans Road to Salvation
Step 1 - Everyone needs salvation because all have sinned.
Romans 3:10-12, and 23
As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” ... For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. (NLT)
Step 2 - The price (or consequence) of sin is death.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (NLT)
Step 3 - Jesus Christ died for our sins. He paid the price for our death.
Romans 5:8
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (NLT)
Step 4 - We receive salvation and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
Romans 10:9-10, and 13
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved ... For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (NLT)
Step 5 - Salvation through Jesus Christ brings us into a relationship of peace with God.
Romans 5:1
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. (NLT)
Romans 8:1
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. (NLT)
Romans 8:38-39
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NLT)

HONORING WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
HAGAR: A WOMAN IN BONDAGE
Hagar was a young slave who was handmaiden or bondwoman to Abram’s wife Sarai. She was forced to live with foreigners in a strange land with nomads. Her name means fight. Hagar lived up to her name because she had to leave this land twice. The first time she ran away from Sarai. The second time she was literally force out of her dwelling.
Sarai was childless and past child-bearing years. She wanted children. The cultural norm then for childless women was that they were looked down upon because God had not blessed them with children. God had promised Abram a son. Sarai had been waiting for almost 10 years for this promised son. She was tired of waiting. She encouraged Abram to sleep with Hagar and make a child. Any child conceived by them according to custom would be Sarai’s. Hagar was forced to give her body to her master. She had no choice to obey. Hagar conceived and had a son. After Hagar became pregnant, she was rejected and scorned because she was the mother of Sarai’s son.
Hagar became prideful. She began to resent her mistress. Sarai told Aram that it was his fault Hagar was so arrogant and disrespectful. Abram said that her slave was her problem. Do whatever. Sarai mistreated Hagar every chance she got. Hagar ran away. While she was in the desert an angel visited her and told her of her son’s future. She was told to return home and be an obedient servant to Sarai. Hagar believed the prophecy the angel revealed to her. Hagar gave birth to a so. She named him Ishmael. As the first born son; Ishmael had birthrights.
God changed the names of Abram and Sarai to Abraham and Sarah. Sarah was now pregnant with a son. She gave birth to Isaac. Ishmael was now a threat to Isaac because he was the first born son of Abraham. The birth rights and family wealth now belonged to Ishmael. Sarah demanded that they be put out. Hagar had been an obedient servant but she was prideful and arrogant because of Ishmael’s position. Ishmael mocked Isaac because he was the rightful heir to Abraham. Sarah saw this and it was the last straw for her.
Now Hagar was being dispossessed and again forced out of her home. She found herself and young Ishmael out in the desert with only a small supply of food and water. She sat in desperation crying and waited for Ishmael and her to die of hunger and thirst. Again she was at a disadvantage, alone and estranged from the only family she knew.
Today many women can see themselves in the same position as Hagar. They know what it’s like to be battered, helpless, homeless and desperate. Being beat up by society is nothing new for poverty stricken women of color. You are not alone. God never abandons his children. God stood by the promise given to Hagar by the angel. He showed her a well and gave her directions to a better life in Egypt. She returned to Egypt with Ishmael. There Ishmael flourished and founded a great Arabic nation. Just as God provided for Hagar; he will do the same for you.
